In Wicca as well as in meditation, visualization is a very critical component. One does spell casting to achieve a desired result and the need to "see" this desired result is crucial. When meditating one might "see" themselves in their haven or "safe" spot and this will help the body and mind relax. Remember that our minds are the most powerful tool we will ever possess. When one learns to use it effectively there are no limits to what one can do. Visualization is sometimes referred to as using the mind's eye to see.
The mind, like any other part of the body, needs to be trained and exercised to achieve maximum results. I would like to offer you a way to do this. A way to get maximum results that will assist you in spell casting and meditating. A training regime, so to speak, for the mind.
Begin by sitting in a comfortable chair or reclining on a bed. Ensure that you will not be disturbed for 15 to 20 minutes. Close the eyes and relax. Take several deep breaths. Clear the mind of any thoughts and the ones that do come through merely let them pass. Do not attempt to stop them or resolve them, just let them go in one side and out the other. To try and stop them or deal with them takes ones focus and concentration off the intended task.
When you feel comfortable and relaxed picture an Orange with your mind. See it floating in mid air directly in front of you. Focus on this orange. See the vibrant orange color of it. See the rough texture it has. If you are having problems with this first step get an Orange and look at it closely before beginning this again.
Make the Orange slowly turn while floating in the air so you can see all sides of it including the top and bottom. Practice this for a couple of days until you are comfortable and don't have to struggle to do this. You can try seeing other objects as well.
Once you can get a clear picture in your mind of the Orange and can hold it there for a few minutes it is time to go to the next step. For most meditations and spell castings just seeing the image will be enough, but I intend on teaching one to actually use all your mind's senses just like the five physical senses. so far we have established "sight" with ones mind. Let's move on to "touch".
As you "see" the Orange floating in front of you, with the mind, reach out to it with the mind's hands. See your hands in front of you. See your hands touching the Orange. Pluck the Orange out of the air and hold it in your hand."Feel" the texture of it. Squeeze it. Does it feel soft or is it firm? Toss it up into the air and catch it. Feel it as it lands back into your palm. Do this exercise for a couple of days until you feel comfortable with it.
Now we will work on the sense of "smell". If you have forgotten what an Orange smells like you can always get one, break it open and smell it before starting this exercise. Begin by seeing the Orange floating before you. Reach out and hold it in your mind's hand. Bring it close to your face and try to smell it. Can you smell it? Tell your mind what it should smell like. With your other hand break open the peel. See the peel spray a little as you do this just like a real orange would do when you peel it. Can you smell the orange now? Keep trying to smell it by telling your mind what it should smell like. Do this for a couple days until you feel comfortable with smelling.
Once you feel comfortable smelling the Orange it is time to work on taste. At the end of the "smell" exercise I had you peeling the Orange to open it up. Peel the orange completely now. See the juices drip from it as you do. The jucier the Orange the better! Feel the juices run onto your hands and maybe down your arm. Smell the aroma of it as you do this. Now bring the Orange to your mouth and take a bite out of it. Can you "taste" it? Tell your mind what an Orange tastes like. Savor the flavor of it. Can you feel the juices run down your chin?
You can do each exercise individually or all at the same time in sequence but make sure you sense each step. Don't rush through it. Remember we are training ones mind. I use an Orange in the exercises because everyone at one time or another has eaten an Orange plus the Orange is very aromatic and juicy. You can use another food item if you desire. Something that could be your favorite food, this way your mind will look forward to the taste of it.
One thing I should mention here is that I never went into the sense of "hearing". Hearing is pretty much covered in each exercise. When you threw the Orange up into the air and caught it did you hear it hit your hand? When you peeled it, did you hear the peel rip as you opened it up? When you bit into it, did you hear your teeth as they sank into it? If not then go through the exercises again but listen as you do each one. You will begin to hear the sounds.
Now that you can visualize with your eyes closed, open them and try this all again. Stare at the ceiling or a blank wall. Follow the above procedure but this time with your eyes wide open. This is a bit harder because of the visual distractions in the room. Because of this your powers of focus and concentration will also be enhanced.
Remember that all this is done with ones physical body motionless. Everything is done within ones mind. I hope that these exercises will assist you in reaching your goals in Wicca and meditation. Practice is very important like with anything else new. One will begin to notice that each time these exercises are done the results will become easier and easier to achive. Incorporating them into your spellcasting and meditation will greatly enhance the outcomes.
